Function / Content

This series consists of printed 72 cm X 72 cm black and white aerial photographs of the Northern Territory. Most of the frames are labelled with an SVY prefix to the number, indicating that the base aerial photograph used was one originally produced by the Royal Australian Survey Corps - a unit who made signiificant contributions to mapping in Australia, New Guinea and the Pacific from 1915 until 1996. The photographs record the scale; the date of the photograph; the location and the frame number. Since many of these photographs have overlaid transparencies with further mine information and they were located, unlisted, with the records found in NTRS 1548 - also a series of records created by the Head Office of the Mines Branch - the assumption has been made that the records were utilised in mine development within the Northern Territory.
